Walt: use what we already know to make meaning within a story.
Task
Work on this Doc together with a buddy, or in a group of 3.
When do you think this story takes place? I.e. If in the future, how many years into the future?
I think it takes place in 2030 in the future
Is this the first time Āreta and Trish have taken the boat out fishing. Yes/ No
- NO
How do you know? Because Āreta and Trish just when out to find something to sell.
What do you think the author means by regular people when he says “...back when regular people
could still get petrol.”?
could still get petrol.”?
- I think he means that back when you could get petrol the world wasn’t polluted but now
- people are just lazy and throwing their rubbish around.
In this story, what exactly does the Forest refer to?
- In the story forest is in the water filled with lots of tubines
Where is this story set do you think?
- The Sky tower
What are the clues that tell you this?
- Because in the book it says, Across the water, towards the city, the sky tower
- lighthouse jutted through the haze.
Why is Grandma Trish so excited to find a Kahawai again. What has happened to them?
- The water was polluted and all the Kahawai died or swam away.
Explain why you think this.
- I think this because because in the pictures i could see lots of rubbish in the sea
- and lots of dead fish and the air looked really yuck.
Why do Trish and Āreta let the Kahawai go back into the water?
- Because Areta was sad and said to Trish there might be more fish and i mean fish’s.
- That's why they let the fish go.
