Acknowledging Mr and Mrs Burt

Today was a very special day. We celebrated something for two very special people., who have done a lot of things for our community, school and the kids of NZ. These two very important people's names are Russell Burt and Dorthay Burt; they are also known as Mr Burt and Mrs Burt. Mr Burt is a proud principle of Pt England School and Mrs Burt works alongside Mr Burt.

Today we celebrated Mr Burt’s achievements by being recognised by Queen Elizabeth. Mr Burt was acknowledged for his services to Primary Education, Pt England school also acknowledged him for being kind and very very hardworking and also being committed to helping kids learn better.

At assembly Pisirana was saying a nice speech to Mr Burt then AJ said a prayer and when he said “ In Jesus name amen” all the senior’s stood up and sang a very heart warming song in Samoan. Then when the senior’s finished singing the Samoan song we moved straight into another song but it was in Maori. The rest of the school stood up and sang the Maori song which was Ka waiata we were singing so loud so Mr Burt and Mrs Burt could feel the love we were sending them and also to show we were proud of them both.

When the song finished two Ex student’s from Pt England stood up and
started doing a Haka for Mr and Mrs Burt and some Year 7 and 8 boys stood
up and did the haka with them. When the haka finished we all started
clapping and said we were so PROUD of Mr and Mrs Burt.

This is what I think Mr Burt is. Mr Burt is the best principal that he
would do anything to help kids get a good education and will always love
and support them even when they make bad decisions. My parents even
say he’s the best principal and even better than their principal's when
they were young. Mr and Mrs Burt are hard working and will never stop
trying to help kids get a good education!
-(I think this is the badge that was presented at assembly)

  1. Hi Zamera,

What a beautiful recount of the assembly, I know Mr Burt would love to read this! I wonder what Mr Burt will do with his medal - maybe he could wear it to formal events.

    1. Hi Ms Stone,

I felt really good writing this because Mr Burt is a great principle and he would support kids with there learning. I think Mr Burt would wear his medal to formal events to show off that he was recognised by the Queen. Thank-you for the comment.

      From,
      Zamera
