Serious Subtraction #1

 WALT: Use our knowledge of place value to solve subtraction problems
Serious Subtraction
We are learning to solve subtraction problems using whole and decimal numbers.


Times Table Practice:


3 x 3 = 9      5 x 5 =  25      8 x 7 =  56   12 x 10 = 120     4 x 6 = 24  5 x 7 = 35   2 x 4 = 8  3 x 8 =24   9 x 8 =72  4 x 7 = 28 9 x 7 = 63


345 + 385 = 730
300+300=600 
40+80=120
5+5=10
600+120=720
720+10=730


847 + 126 =  973
800+100=900
40+20=60
7+6=13
900+60=960
960+13=973


674 + 586 = 1260
600+500=1100
70+80=150
4+6=10
1100+150=1250
1250+10=1260


Your sister gives you $125 to spend on lollies. If you spend $65 how much
money would you have left over?
$65+$60=$125
60+60=120
5+0=5
120+5=125 te answer is 60
She then gives you $234 more. How much money do you have now?
234+60=294
200+0=200
30+60=90
4+0=4
200+90=290, 290+4=294

Pt England school are buying new sports gear. There is $500 in the sports budget. 


They first purchase a basketball hoop for $50. How much money  is left?
$500-$50=$450


They then buy a net for $25.  How much do they have left?
$450-$25=425
450-20=430
0-5=5 , 430-5=425
Then they buy three tennis balls. Each ball costs $3. How much do they have left?
(3x3=9)
$425-9=416
400-0=400
25-9=16
400+16=416


Finally they buy a netball hoop which costs $100.  How much is left in the budget at the end?
$416-100= $316
400-100-300
10-0=10
6-0=6
300+10=310
310+6=$316 there is $316 dollers left in the budget!


Troy has $100 in his wallet. He spends $65.50 on a new PS4 game.
How much money does he have left?
$100-$65.50= 
I don’t know how to fiugure this out?


Kahurangi wins some money and goes on a shopping spree.
If he has 10.80 left in his bank account and he started with $525.80, how much did he spend?
525.80+ 10.80= 536.1
525+10=535
8+8=160
535+1=536.1


Zyla’s puppy is growing every month. He used to weigh 5.6 kg
but he now weighs 6.3. How much weight has he put on?
5.6+6.3= 11.9
5+6=11
6.3=9 
Then add 11 and 9 which would be 11.9 
The answer is 11.9
