We are learning to use place value to solve multiplication problems using whole numbers.

A factor is the multiple’s that equal 24 or 30

Factors of 24: 24,1,6,4,2,12,8,3,

Factors of 30: 10,3,30,1,6,5,

A Multiple is any multiple of that number

Multiples of 6:     ,60,66,72,12,18,24,30,42,48,54,

42 = 16, 4 x 4=16

√49 =7, 7 x 7=49

25 x 8 = 200

20 x 8= 160

5 x 8 =40

160+40=200

25 x 15 = 375

20 x 15 =300

5 x 15 =75

  

  Show your working under each problem:

1.  Mrs Ilaoa orders 5 boxes of bats. If each box contains 7 bats, how many
bats are there altogether?

5x 7=15

2. She then orders 23 boxes of cones. If each box contains 8 cones,
how many cones are there altogether? 

23 x 8=

20x 8=160, 3 x 8= 24 

160+24=184

3.Mrs Tele’a orders pencils for team 5. She orders 25 boxes of 12 pencils.
How many pencils are there altogether?

25 x 12=

20x10=200, 2 x 2=4

5x10=50, 5 x 2=10

200+4=204, 50+10=60

204+60=264

4. Chance has brought some lollies in to share with the class for her birthday.
She has brought 14 packets which contain 12 lollies each. How many lollies are there altogether?

14 x 12=

10x10=100, 10 x 2=20

 4 x 10=40. 4 x 2=8

100+20=120, 40+8=48

120+48=168

5. Team 5 are working out how much money they can make from their fundraising
at the garage sale.

If they sell 27 plates of food for $12 each, how much money will they make?

27 x 12=

20x10=200, 20 x 2=40

7 x 10=70, 7 x 2=14

200+40=240, 70+14=84

240+84=324

If they sell 45 cakes for $15 each, how much money will they make?

45x 15=

40 x 10=400, 40x 5=200

5x10=50, 5 x 5=25

200+400=600, 50+25=75

600+75=675

6. Room 4 is 12m long and 11m wide. What is the area of the room?

12 x 11=

10x10=100

10x1=10

2x10=20

2x1=2

100+10=110

20+2=22

110+22=132

Malaga Career Speakers

On the 10 of April Team 5 of Pt England school was lucky enough to have three guest speakers speak about how they became what they have become.These three lucky guest are Jason Young he works at Dysart and he also did Iron Man with a teacher that use to work here and her name is Miss Tito she was a Maori teacher.Any way Jason was talking about what you need to do to get where you want to be and always just believe that you can do it.He also has one son and his mum looked after him for his whole life.Then Jason was finished with his speech and then some of us kids were asking him some question like do you regret anything in life and he said no.Then he was finished and a girl named Bethany came up and said a thank-you note because he had to leave to work.    

Then it was time for the next speaker.Her name was Fione Bakulich and guess what she was Ms Tele’a sister I couldn’t believe it.You might know her from a program on Tvnz on demand and the program is called The Caskeeters.So she’s pretty famous she was talking about when she was little her and Ms Tele’a was told to take the bodys and move them to other rooms and she also said that when she saw her parents working lots of hours she wanted to do that so her parents can have time off.She has one son she raised him on her own and she wants him to be the best he can.When her speech was done some kids were asking her some question like was it scary for you and some other things. 

 Now it was time for the last speaker.It was a surprise to me because his name was Tanielu Tele’a and he is Ms Tele’a son and he also plays for the blues she he’s famous like his aunty Fione.He was telling us how he felt when he was asked to play for the Blues.Also how he went to St Kents and then went on to play for the Blues.He told us that his role model he looks up to is Sonny Bill William.He also told us to never be scared to try new things and to listen to your parents because they have done alot for you and you just need to trust what they teach you.Then his speech was done and two of our school leaders Justice and Amelia they said Thank-you for coming and telling us how you got to where you are and they gave them an eve planet and a block of chocolate.We were so happy for them to come over and speak to us. There was something really interesting to me and that was that they all were related to Ms Tele’a because Jason was Ms Tele'a husband best friend and Fione was Ms Tele’a sister and Tanielu was Ms Tele’a son.We were so lucky to have them come in and talk to us I hope one I be like them.
